MOMA IS ORGANISING THE 26TH “HUNAR HAAT”

Context:

Defence Minister will inaugurate the 26th “Hunar Haat” of indigenous artisans and craftsmen from across the country at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs is organising the 26th “Hunar Haat” on the theme of “Vocal for Local”.

What is Hunar Haat?

  • The Hunar Haat is an effective platform wherein opportunity is given to artisans/craftsmen and culinary experts from across the country to showcase and market their handmade, rare, exquisite indigenous products.
  • Hunar Haat is being implemented from 2016-17 as a component of USTTAD scheme.
  • Ministry of Minority Affairs launched Upgrading the Skills and Training in Traditional Arts/ Crafts for Development (USTTAD) scheme in May, 2015 to preserve the rich heritage of traditional arts/crafts of minorities.
  • Construction of Hunar Hubs is one of the projects considered under the scheme with the objective of enabling artisans/entrepreneurs to carry out exhibitions/melas/food-courts/skill training under one roof in the identified MCD Headquarters.
  • Hunar Haat has provided employment and employment opportunities to more than 5 lakh Indian artisans, craftsmen, culinary experts and other people associated with them in the last 5 years.

Benefits of Hunar Haat

  1. Projecting the talent of Indian artisans.
  2. Build a credible brand of Indigenous Talent of Indian artisans and craftsmen.
  3. Promoting the artisan and craftsmen heritage of India which had been marginalised for a long time.
  4. Provides an Empowerment & Employment Exchange platform for master artisans and craftsmen.
  5. Provides a platform to fulfil the commitments under “Make in India”, “Stand up India” and “Startup India”.

Achievements of Hunar Haat

  • Hunar Haats have generated employment and employment opportunities for artisans/craftspersons & culinary experts and associated artisans and have strengthened their market linkages for indigenous products.
  • Hunar Haat platform has provided employment and employment opportunities to more than 5 lakh artisans, craftsmen and artists as of early 2021.
  • The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs will provide employment and employment opportunities to 7 lakh 50,000 artisans and craftsmen through 75 “Hunar Haat” which will be organised by completion of 75 years of the country’s independence.

USTTAD (Upgrading the Skills & Training in Traditional Arts/Crafts for Development) scheme

  • The USTTAD (Upgrading the Skills & Training in Traditional Arts/Crafts for Development) scheme was launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
  • USTTAD Scheme aims to upgrade the capacity building and traditional skills of master craftsmen and artisans.

Objectives of USTTAD:

  1. Capacity building and upgrading of the traditional skills of master craftsmen and artisans;
  2. Documentation of identified traditional arts/crafts of minorities;
  3. Set standards of traditional skills;
  4. Training of minority youths in various identified traditional arts/crafts through master craftsmen;
  5. Develop national and international market linkages; and
  6. Preservation of languishing Arts/Crafts.

Components of USTTAD:

  1. Up-gradation of Skills and Training in Traditional Arts/Crafts through Institutions.
  2. USTAD Apprenticeship stipend for Research and Development.
  3. Support to Craft museum for curating traditional arts/ crafts.
  4. Support to minority craftsmen/artisans through Hunar Haat and Shilp Utsav for marketing their products through exhibitions throughout the country and abroad.
  5. Recognition of talented Master Craftsmen & Artisans.

TROPEX-21, NAVDEX-21 AND IDEX-21

Context:

Chief of the Naval Staff presided over the debrief of TROPEX-21 (Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise) at Kochi.

Indian Naval Ship Pralaya arrived at Abu Dhabi, UAE to participate in the NAVDEX 21 (Naval Defence Exhibition) and IDEX 21 (International Defence Exhibition).

About TROPEX-21

  • Indian Navy’s largest biennial Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise of 2021 (TROPEX-21) has the theme of: ‘Combat Ready, Credible and Cohesive force’.
  • Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Police of 13 coastal States and Union Territories along with other stakeholders in the maritime domain are the participants and the exercise is conducted over a vast geographical expanse in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • ‘Sea Vigil’: In the first phase, the Indian Navy had conducted coastal defence exercise ‘Sea Vigil’ along the entire coastline and Island territories of India on 12-13 January 2021.
  • Exercise Sea Vigil was followed by a large-scale Tri-Service joint amphibious exercise AMPHEX-21.
  • Conduct of TROPEX is being overseen by Naval Headquarters with participation from all three Commands of the Indian Navy (Eastern, Western and Southern Naval Command) and the only Tri-Service theatre command of the Indian Armed Forces located at Port Blair.

About NAVDEX-21 and IDEX-21

  • NAVDEX is held alongside IDEX, the International Defence Exhibition and Conference and features a purpose-built exhibition hall, ADNEC Marina for visiting naval ships, a pontoon for small crafts, daily water demonstrations and an outdoor display area.
  • NAVDEX provides a dedicated and focused platform for international naval defence and maritime security companies to showcase their technologies and services to an international audience.
  • NAVDEX offers exhibitors the unique opportunity to promote the latest in naval, maritime and coastal security technology, equipment and crafts.
  • Participation of an Indian Navy ship in NAVDEX 21 and IDEX 21 also highlights close relations between India and UAE.
