CLASSICAL SWINE FEVER (CSF)

Why in news?

  • CSF is one of the most important diseases of pigs causing high mortality with annual loss of approx. Rs.4.299 billion
  • Indian veterinary research institute IVRI had earlier developed a cell culture CSF vaccine by adapting the lipidized vaccine virus in cell culture.
  • The technology has been transferred to M/s Indian Immunological is, Hyderabad and Government of Punjab during 2016 and 2018.

  • Classical swine fever (CSF), also known as hog cholera, is a contagious viral disease of domestic and wild swine.
  • It is caused by a virus of the genus Pestivirus of the family Flaviviridae, which is closely related to the viruses that cause bovine viral diarrhoea in cattle and border disease in sheep.
  • There is only one serotype of CSF virus (CSFV). CSF is a disease listed by the OIE World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Terrestrial Animal Health Code and must be reported to the OIE (OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code).

APEDA-CFTRI SIGN MoU FOR LIAISON OFFICE IN GUWAHATI

Why in news?

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by CSIR-CFTRI with APEDA to set up a Liaison Office in Guwahati, Assam today to provide technical support to the food industries in the North East region.

  • Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority is an apex body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, responsible for the export promotion of agricultural products
  • CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, is one of the constituent laboratory under the aegis of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. It was opened on 21 October 1950 in Mysore, Karnataka.

SWADESH DARSHAN SCHEME

Why in news?

Tourism Ministry launched the Swadesh Darshan scheme.

Objective: 

  • To develop theme-based tourist circuits in the country.
  • These tourist circuits  will be developed on the principles of high tourist value, competitiveness and  sustainability in an integrated manner.
  • To develop quality infrastructure in the country with the objective of providing better experience and facilities to the visitors on one hand and on other hand fostering the economic growth.

Features of Swadesh Darshan Scheme:

  • Swadesh Darshan scheme is one of the flagship scheme of the Ministry of tourism for the development of thematic circuits in the country in a planned and prioritised manner
  • 100% funding from Centre for the project components undertaken for public funding.
  • To leverage the voluntary funding available for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of Central Public Sector Undertakings and corporate sector.
  • Funding of individual project will vary from state to state and will be finalised on the basis of detailed project reports prepared by PMC (Programme Management Consultant). PMC will be a national level consultant to be appointed by the Mission Directorate.
  • A National Steering Committee (NSC) will be constituted with Minister in charge of M/O Tourism as Chairman, to steer the mission objectives and vision of the scheme.
  • A Mission Directorate headed by the Member Secretary, NSC as a nodal officer will help in identification of projects in consultation with the States/ UTs governments and other stake holders.

SATHI INITIATIVE BY DST

Sophisticated Analytical & Technical Help Institutes

  • To address the need for building shared, professionally managed and strong Science and Technology infrastructure in the country which is readily accessible to academia, start-ups, manufacturing, industry and R&D labs, the Department of Science & Technology has launched a unique scheme called “Sophisticated Analytical & Technical Help Institutes (SATHI)”
  • DST has already set up three such centres in the country, one each at IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi and BHU at a total cost of Rs 375 Cores.
  • It is planned to set up five SATHI Centres every year for the next four years.
  • SATHI will address the problems of accessibility, maintenance, redundancy and duplication of expensive equipment in our Institutions

FAME INDIA SCHEME

  • In order to promote manufacturing of hybrid and electric vehicles and to ensure sustainable growth, Department of Heavy Industry formulated a scheme namely FAME India [Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India]
  • Government notified Phase-II of FAME India Scheme on 8th March 2019, which is for a period of three years commencing from 1st April 2019

UJH MULTIPURPOSE PROJECT

As per Government’s commitment to fast track utilization of India’s rights under Indus Waters Treaty, the project is planned to be constructed in Kathua District of J&K on the River UJH which is a major tributary of River Ravi.

  • The Ujh river (or Ujjh river) is a tributary of the Ravi River that flows through the Kathua district in the India state of Jammu and Kashmir
  • The Ujh river originates in Kailash mountains (near Bhaderwah hills, part of the Pir Panjal Range) at an altitude of 4,300 metres
  • Four streams, Bhini, Sutar, Dunarki and Talan join Ujh at Panjtirthi. Ujh and Bhini are perennial rivers. The rest are seasonal

SANTUST BY MoLE

  • Mo labour and employment has launched SANTUST portal for effective delivery of public services.
  • The objective of ‘Santust’ is to promote transparency, accountability, effective delivery of public services and implementation of policies, schemes of Ministry of Labour and Employment at grassroot level through constant monitoring.
  • For public grievances, Centralized Public Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System (CPGRAM) portal is also present.

RISING DEMAND OF OIL

As per World Energy Outlook 2019 published by International Energy Agency, India’s oil demand in total primary energy is projected to increase from 233 Million tonne of oil equivalent (Mtoe) in 2018 to 305 Mtoe in 2025, whereas China’s oil demand is projected to increase from 593 Mtoe in 2018 to 672 Mtoe in 2025.

  • The Agency’s mandate has broadened to focus on the “3Es” of effectual energy policy: energy security, economic development, and environmental protection

  • An indicative target of 20% blending of ethanol in petrol and 5% blending of biodiesel in diesel is proposed by 2030.
  • The goal is to be achieved by reinforcing ongoing ethanol/biodiesel supplies through increasing domestic production, setting up Second Generation bio refineries, development of new feedstock for biofuels
  • Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is the authority to grant authorization to the entities for the development of City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in Geographical Areas (GAs) as per PNGRB Act, 2006

  • Launched by Mo Tourism
  • “Find the Incredible You” Campaign focuses on the promotion of niche tourism products of the Country on digital and social media.
  • It focuses on transformative experiences brought alive through unique storytelling in the format of autobiographies of travelers, with the tagline ‘Find the Incredible you’. 
  • The Campaign was the winner of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Award 2019
  • PATA grand awards are presented to outstanding entries in four principal categories: Marketing; Education and Training; Environment and Heritage and Culture.
  • India won the award in ‘Marketing category.

BHEL KASARGOD PLANT TO BE TRANSFERRED TO KERALA

  • Government of Kerala has agreed to take over BHEL’s 51% stake in BHEL-EML. Thereafter, as per the laid down procedure in General Financial Rules and the extant guidelines, transfer of assets is being processed
  • Union Cabinet on 30.11.2016, accorded ‘in principle’ approval for the transfer of Palakkad Unit of Instrumentation Limited to the Government of Kerala.
  • A tripartite memorandum of understanding has been signed by Government of India, Government of Kerala and Instrumentation Limited defining the modalities of transfer of Palakkad Unit to the Government of Kerala.
