Floods in India are a product of four interacting driver clusters; climate change amplifies every one of them simultaneously, explaining why flood damage is rising even where rainfall totals are unchanged.
The Governance Architecture — What Exists and Where It Fails

The Declaration is philosophically grounded in Pope Leo XIV's encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, which argues that human dignity must be shielded from technological overreach.

Its immediate geopolitical context includes the ongoing conflicts in West Asia, South Asia, and Eastern Europe — all of which have involved AI-assisted targeting and autonomous systems operating at speeds that compress human decision time.

  • A 2025 Rand Corporation study examined AI existential risk scenarios and identified four capabilities an AI system would need to pose a genuine threat to humanity: integration with physical infrastructure; the ability to self-sustain without human maintenance; a goal directed at human harm; and the capacity to deceive human overseers.

The Five Sacred Names — What They Signify
