  • Split the paper at the verb. "Describe" and "examine" are two directives carrying roughly half the marks each. Use visible Part I / Part II headings — the examiner should not have to hunt for where the evaluation begins.
  • A table is the right format for the "describe" half. Six missions in prose eats 90 words; six missions in a four-column table costs a third of that and reads as organised. Save the prose for the examination half.
  • Anchor on the four pillars of food security. Availability, access, utilisation, stability. Stating that the missions delivered overwhelmingly on the first and barely on the other three is the examination the question asked for, and it converts a descriptive answer into an argued one.
  • Use oilseeds as the double-edged fact. The 1986 Mission is the model's greatest success and, given that India still imports the majority of its edible oil and needed NMEO in 2021 and again in 2024, also the clearest evidence that mission gains can reverse. One fact deployed on both sides scores better than two separate ones.
