The UPPCS cut-off is the score of the last selected candidate — not a minimum to aim for. UPPSC releases cut-offs at three stages: with Prelims result, with Mains result, and with Final result (post-wise). Prelims marks are not counted in the final merit. Final rank = Mains (1500) + Interview (100) = 1600 marks.

UPPCS Prelims Cut-Off 2026

GS-I Cut-Off — 5-Year Official Trend (out of 200)
Only GS Paper I marks count for Prelims merit. CSAT needs minimum 33% (66/200) — qualifying only, not a competitive cut-off.

UPPCS Mains Cut-Off 2026

Category-wise Mains Cut-Off (out of 1500)
Released after final result. Minimum qualifying % is a floor — actual closing cut-offs are far higher.

Stage Three — Final Merit

Post-wise Cut-Off (out of 1600)

Based on UPPSC PCS 2022 cycle official data. Final merit = Mains (1500) + Interview (100). Bars show closing score of last selected candidate per category.
Note: 2023+ uses new pattern (no optional, 2 UP papers). Use figures as directional benchmarks. Verify official cut-offs at uppsc.up.nic.in.

How post allocation works: Candidates fill post preferences in the DAF before Mains. UPPSC allocates in rank order — highest rank gets first choice. Getting SDM requires ranking in the top ~40 for General category.

Strategy

Factors Affecting Cut-Off & Target Scores

📌 Number of Vacancies

Fewer posts = higher cut-off. 2023 Prelims (220 posts) had the highest cut-off in 5 years. Watch PCS-specific count in the notification closely.

👥 Applicants & Attendance

6.26 lakh appeared for 2025 Prelims — only 42.5% turnout. Low attendance reduces effective competition and can soften the cut-off.

📄 Paper Difficulty

Harder paper → lower cut-off. Easier paper → higher cut-off. 2025 paper was moderate — cut-off expected slightly below 2023 peak of 125.

🏷️ Category & Reservation

General / EWS have the highest cut-offs. SC / ST have the lowest — often 15–30 marks below General in Prelims, 100–200 marks below in Mains.

📝 New Mains Pattern

No optional + 2 UP-specific papers (400 marks) from 2023. No standard textbooks — strong UP preparation gives a decisive 50–80 mark Mains advantage.

🎯 Set Your Target Right

SDM/DSP: aim 970+ (Gen). BDO/Naib: 930–950. Always set personal target 30–50 marks above expected cut-off to build a safety buffer.

Stage-wise Safe Score Targets — All Categories
Set these as personal minimums to build a safety buffer above the expected cut-off.

Legacy IAS Mentor Insight: The cut-off is the score of the last selected candidate — not your target. Build 30–50 marks of buffer above the expected cut-off. GS V & VI (UP-specific, 400 marks combined) are your biggest differentiation opportunity in the new Mains pattern — invest disproportionately in them.
